The UK Team Racing Association. As well as an annual championship, maintains standard Sailing Instructions which stand the test of some 4,000 races a year. Click here for the March 2010 edition, or here in case there's a later version. For anyone trying to write SIs from scratch - don't. At least start with the UKTRA instructions, even if you then adapt them. Their site is also an excellent reference for those wanting to run an event. Held annually at West Kirby Sailing Club on the Wirral, the 3 day early
May event restricts entry to 32 teams and runs close to 350 races in multiple flights of colour coded boats. Always over-subscribed, the Wilson attracts multiple teams from Eire and the US. The Canadians, Czechs and Dutch have also fielded teams.
As a teenager I watched this Blue Riband of team racing spellbound, and decided that was what I wanted to do. And did - but that's another story. Click here for their site. The British Universities Sailing Association. With ever changing student population and a huge range of activities it is nevertheless generally lively and up to date. (The RYA provides some continuity and resource) It was for a time the only active team racing site. Click here for more.
Between them BUSA, SUSA (Scottish) and ANUSC (Northern - although Cambridge inveigled entry to get more and better competition) now probably run the largest number of team races in any one year. As interclub team racing has withered away (some tiny pockets have revived) most young people's entry to the sport will begin at University. |
